Ditch That Textbook  -  Matt Miller
Ditching isn't about tossing dusty textbooks into dumpsters. It's a change in mindset, from following a script to writing your own. It takes creativity and risk-taking, but you already have that within you, whether you realize it or not. In this presentation, you'll be inspired to step out of your comfort zone and blaze a new trail, not because you have to but because your students are begging you to.

Matt Miller is an educator and blogger. He’s the author of two books: “Ditch That Textbook,” a book about revolutionizing the classroom with innovative teaching, mindsets and curriculum, and “Ditch That Homework,” a book full of strategies to help teachers become less reliant on homework to the point they can ditch it. He has infused technology and innovative teaching methods in his classes for more than 10 years. Matt is a Google Certified Innovator, PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator and two-time Bammy! Awards nominee. He writes at the Ditch That Textbook blog about using technology and creative ideas in teaching. Reach him at matt@DitchThatTextbook.com or on Twitter at @jmattmiller.

(Matt Miller will also be available to sign books at the CUE Gear Store Thursday, 10:15 am - 11:00 am.)

Documentary filmmakers Johwell St-Cilien and Jean-Michel "MK" Dobaria
C.A.S.A.: An Education Revolution is a narrative documentary about Jamaal Bowman, the founding principal of Cornerstone Academy for Social Action Middle School; and how he uses Hip Hop as pedagogy for school and community transformation. Filmmakers Johwell and “MK” will share the story about making the documentary and Bowman’s year after year relentless fight for each of his roughly 300 students to obtain a holistic education that encompasses the creative arts, entrepreneurial skills, knowledge of self, and interdisciplinary curriculum. “We are very clear that we have been called to serve a particularly vulnerable population, and believe strongly that an education rooted in the multiple intelligences and creativity, will transform the world for generations to come.” @casadocumentary casadocumentary.com
