Suddenly It Clicks!
Early Learning Consultant
Friendswood, TX

From the beginning of my career I have been focused on young learners and their adults. I have explored many different technology tools and strategies over my long career and I am more excited today than ever to help others use technologies as empowering tools for little learners ages 3 and to 7 years. The technologies of today can empower, engage, motivate, and provide learning opportunities for our youngest learners in amazingly powerful, yet simple ways.

How did I get here?

I am a former classroom teacher of students 4 to 13 years old. I believe that teaching is my calling and a deep part of who I am. I taught in schools for 9 years before moving into district and county-level positions in staff development and technology integration in the classroom. I am an early adopter of technology, earning my Master’s Degree in Educational Computing from Pepperdine University in the early 1980s and serving on the CUE Board of Directors. Following my graduation I was an Adjunct Professor there for many years, teaching graduate level technology integration courses. After moving to Texas, I returned to university teaching at the University of Houston and teaching online courses in the selection and integration of technology for the University of Northern Iowa. Along the way I  hosted an online community for teachers on Scholastic Network, founded the K2 Email List for Classroom Connect, and wrote ongoing columns in Learning and Leading with Technology, Instructor Magazine, Electronic Learning, and Curriculum Administrator Magazine. I am proud of my first published book “Suddenly It Clicks! - Using an iPad with Your Preschooler” co-written with Gayle Berthiaume and am slowly working on my next book for 2022 or 2023.

I have long worked to improve and encourage the wise use of technologies with young learners. I am proud of her role in forming the ELN, a Professional Learning Network of ISTE that focused on Early Learning and Technology. I have provided professional development through ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education), Harcourt Learning Technologies, Classroom Connect and others. I lead my own company, working with schools, school systems and private companies to design and deliver professional development sessions. I focus on the implementation of technologies, teaching strategies and the application of powerful learning models. Embedded professional development, learning management in a collaborative, connected classroom, and developing powerful learning environments are some of my areas of particular interest and expertise.

I have shared my knowledge and ideas as a featured or keynote speaker in numerous states and countries, including presentations for the Ministry of Education of The Bahamas, a Keynote at the TCEA Tech for Tots Conference, a Keynote at the Early Literacy Conference at the Fred Rogers Center, and as a featured or spotlight speaker at FETC and ISTE for many years.

I am known for my practical approach to education, my appreciation and admiration for teaching and learning and my skill at making the complex understandable and the difficult manageable.
